Although I wished for a more mature feel to the story, Threadneedle is a bewitching debut enthralling and strongly imaginative enough to bind me in its spell. With such sumptuous magic, richly drawn characters, splendid villains, and seductive prose, how could it not?
Leigh Bardugo's first foray to adult fantasy and dark academia is not only a cautionary tale about messing with the supernatural, but is also a sobering exploration to campus culture, especially its social aspects where connections and status directly translate to power.
While it is an alluring and eloquent tale of consequence, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue unfortunately falls to the trappings of immortality and struggles to resolve its story in a deeply satisfying way.
